Smart-Value
New Wave Gutter Guard
Punched aluminum panel for hardwood-debris homes — the right pick when stainless micro-mesh is more than the job needs.
Best for
- Hardwood canopies (oak, maple, tulip poplar, redbud)
- Newer subdivisions where pine is essentially absent
- Bronze-trim homes — the finish disappears
- Customers who want real protection at a lower price point
Skip this one if
Your lot has heavy pine, sycamore bark, or eyebrow-level architectural visibility where the bronze finish would clash.
Premium · Most Installed
Xtreme Gutter Guard
Surgical-grade stainless steel micro-mesh on an aluminum frame — the workhorse for pine-heavy and mixed-debris properties.
Best for
- Pine concentration anywhere on the lot (loblolly, white pine, cedar)
- Sycamore, hickory, walnut, oak — finer particulate
- Lake-area properties with mixed debris all year
- Customers who want the longest run between rinses
Skip this one if
Your home is fully open with no overhanging trees — guards are usually unnecessary, and a cleaning subscription costs less.
Architectural Flagship
Evelyn's Leaf Solution
Patented capillary-dip micro-mesh in six color choices — the architectural pick when the gutter line is at eye level.
Best for
- Single-story homes where the gutter line is at guest eye level
- HOAs or design boards that push back on visible silver mesh
- Vineyards, custom builds, architect-designed retreats
- Properties pairing with half-round or architectural gutter installs
Skip this one if
Your project is budget-driven and a cheaper product handles your debris mix. We don't recommend Evelyn's just because it costs more.

Common questions
Straight answers before you book.
Do gutter guards eliminate cleaning entirely?
Honest answer: no. They eliminate the dangerous part — climbing a ladder to scoop a gutter trough full of wet debris. With Xtreme or Evelyn's, you may still want an annual top-rinse to clear pollen film and roof grit off the mesh. With New Wave on a hardwood lot, most homeowners go years between any maintenance at all. We'll tell you which category your house falls into.
Will guards damage my roof or void the roofing warranty?
No. Our installs are gutter-mounted — we don't lift shingles, don't fasten into the roof deck, don't touch the underlayment. If a competing installer wants to slide their guard up under your shingles, ask them in writing whether their method is permitted by your specific shingle manufacturer. Most aren't.
How do guards handle Central Virginia oak pollen and tree debris?
It depends on which product. Oak catkins and tulip poplar pods are coarse — every one of these guards blocks them. Spring oak pollen is fine particulate — Evelyn's sheds it best, Xtreme handles it well, New Wave can develop a temporary surface film that self-clears with the next hard rain. Pine needles? Stainless mesh (Xtreme or Evelyn's) only.
Are gutter guards worth it for a single-story home?
Two ways to look at it. If you're happy paying $200–$300 a year for a cleaning service, you don't need guards. If you're tired of climbing a ladder, or your house has overhanging trees, guards pay back over 5–7 years and stay in the system for 20+. Single-story Evelyn's installs are also where the color match matters most — guests walk up and see the gutter line.
What's the warranty on labor versus the product itself?
The product warranty is from the manufacturer (Leaf Solution, factory in Rochelle, VA). 20 years on New Wave, 25 years on Xtreme and Evelyn's. Our workmanship warranty is written clearly before work starts, and we separate product coverage from labor coverage in the quote.
Can I install these myself?
Leaf Solution only sells through authorized dealers, so the answer is no — the products aren't available DIY. That's deliberate on their end and one of the reasons we partnered with them. The failures we see in the field are almost always cheaper non-Leaf Solution guards installed by handymen or homeowners.
How long does install take?
Most homes are a one-day job. A guard-only install on existing gutters typically runs 4–6 hours. If we're doing a full gutter replacement plus guards, plan on a full day. Larger or multi-roof homes can run two days at most.
What if my gutters need to be replaced first?
We replace and add guards in one visit. Trying to install a quality guard on bent, undersized, or sagging gutters is a waste of money — the guard outlives the gutter underneath it. We'll inspect the existing gutters at the estimate and tell you which path makes sense.
How do guards handle snow and ice?
Aluminum-frame products (Xtreme, Evelyn's) and rigid panels (New Wave) all hold up well under Central Virginia snow loads. We pitch the install correctly so meltwater drains rather than refreezing into the gutter trough. We don't install gutter guards on homes with chronic ice-dam problems without first solving the attic insulation issue causing them.
Are Evelyn's colors HOA-friendly?
Six standard colors plus custom orders cover almost every HOA palette we've seen in Central VA — Glenmore, Keswick Estates, parts of Old Trail, vineyard estates. We bring color samples to the estimate and hold them against your existing trim before locking the choice. If your HOA needs a written spec sheet for review, we'll provide it.
